The Flaming Lips (music)

I just caught the Austin City Limits with The Flaming Lips this weekend. It aired originally in 2004. I've been a fan for a while, but not an obsessive one. I now declare that these guys should be the biggest band on the planet. Because....

• they're art rock you don't hate
  
• they're fun and silly without being self-indulgent
  
• their vocals are authoritative and vulnerable at the same time
  
• their songs are epic stories that make you feel like you're hearing a movie
